Griffith University
Event PartnerThe GU Social Enterprise Signature Experience
Our Social Enterprise Signature Experience is the exciting and unique career preparation stream of courses that makes Griffith’s Bachelor of Arts distinctive in Australia. Our courses examine the nature of social enterprise (the "third sector" of the economy: non government organisations, community and voluntary organisations, not-for-profits and social businesses). The Social Enterprise courses provide opportunities for students to explore topics such as human rights, social justice, social policy, the environment, community and international development; and as well, to develop skills in research, grant-writing, and project and event planning and management.
To further enhance their knowledge and skills, in the third year of their studies, Social Enterprise students take part in the Humanities Industry Placement (HIP) Program. This Professional Placement Program within the third sector enables our Arts undergraduates with their advanced writing and presentation skills, and their ability to handle and analyse information, to gain further experience in organising and completing projects with a social initiative. Above all, it reinforces their commitment to continued learning with a social emphasis, and heightens their appreciation of its importance to their future professional success. The experience gained from their Placement contributes to both their professional and personal knowledge giving them social confidence as well as equipping them well for the many stimulating fields in which arts graduates find employment. These fields include advertising, administration, clerical, education, government, journalism, management, media, retail and research, as well as the burgeoning field of social enterprise.
